03 Interiors - Feature Lighting

The Brief:

We were asked to provide illumination for the central display in the ceiling of the new conference room at Robert Bosch Headquarters. The brief included the fact that the display needed to be dimmable by linking into the main Lutron control system. We were then asked to take an existing non-illuminated stainless steel wall map of the UK and illuminate it in such a way as to highlight the 14 UK offices of the Robert Bosch organisation and supply an edgelit directory with details of those offices. We were also briefed to provide halo lighting to a suede feature panel behind the reception desk, as well as to supply three dimensional LED illuminated raised letters of the Bosch logo, as well as supplying halo lighting to the area above and around the feature drop ceiling.

The Solution:

We produced separate arrays of high output Luxeon LEDs, mounted in the recessed dropped ceiling and to the back of the stainless armature logo. The LEDs were linked to the Lutron system via a series of DMX control drivers. The flexibility of the LEDs allows them to be dimmed, switched on and off or left running continuously without any detriment to the units and also the added advantage of very low power consumption. The stainless steel was drilled and then small LEDs were then mounted in the correct positions to indicate the various offices around the country. The whole map was then mounted onto 10mm cast acrylic and edgelit from the centre outwards with side-emitting high output LEDs to give an all round glowing effect behind the map. The edgelit sign was positioned next to the map and consists of a cast acrylic panel with simple back engraving and lit from the top and bottom edges to give a crisp and clear illuminated directory of all the offices.
